Like growing hair, you should wash your Wig/Hair extension. You do not need to do this so often but once in two weeks to four weeks – depending on the activities you do and how often you wear your hair piece.

This can be done under the shower while wearing your hair piece, the wig can be on a mannequin or by hand. If by hand, make sure the water from the shower is going to the inside of the cap, otherwise you will get reversed hair. Because most shampoos are formulated to remove oils from the scalp (which would dry out your hair piece), it is better to use shampoos and conditioners formulated for dry, coloured or permed hair. It is preferred to use paraben free, sulphate free and alcohol free (organic) shampoos, conditioners, balms and other products.

Pre-washing care is important

Gently remove all tangles with thorough brushing before any washing otherwise it would be impossible to comb or brush the hair piece later.

Washing

NEVER USE HOT WATER!

Wet hair completely using cool running water. Comb through hair with your fingers several times and if no signs of tangling or matting occur, continue to cleanse.

Put gently a small amount of shampoo. Make sure that the hair is traveling in the same direction. Wash your hair gently from the roots to the ends. DO NOT rub hair! Rubbing hair can cause the hair to tangle.

When you’re done, rinse your hair thoroughly in cool running water and make sure that your hair is clean before you use a hair conditioner.

Always rinse the shampoo off with the water flowing in the direction of the hair of fibre, i.e. from the roots to the ends. Never rinse under high-pressure water, spray or tap.

After rinsing squeeze the hair – but not the cap – in a towel to remove excess water and apply conditioner (Hair Wig Balsam Conditioner can be used).

Your extensions don’t receive the natural oils from your scalp so you must condition your hair after every wash. Do not apply conditioner into the root area or near the attachments. It can loosen and weaken the bonds/knots  and make your extensions fall out. Wait 48 hours before you wash your hair for the first time (especially when bonds are attached). Spread the conditioner down the hair length using your fingers and gently squeeze through the hair. You can also use a wide-toothed comb and work conditioner through mid-lengths and ends for two to five minutes but no longer. Then rinse thoroughly in cool running water until the water runs clear.

How to DRY & STYLE

Wrap the wig or hairpiece in a towel and gently slap and squeeze to remove excess water and gently remove any tangles using brush. Use a special brush for hair extensions when brushing your hair (soft bristle brush).

It is best to start at the ends of your hair and work your way up. Always brush in a downward motion.

Be careful with the use of blow dryers, flat irons and curling irons! Human hair should be dried and styled after washing because air-drying can cause remaining of water in the hair and frizzing.

Allow cap to dry completely before placing on a canvas head holder and then use a styling balm.

Moisten hair again and apply a small amount of balm evenly throughout hair keeping away from base (again, it can loosen and weaken the bonds/knots  and make your extensions fall out). Start at nape and work in small sections using brush. Gently comb or brush the hair into the direction of the finished style. Blow dry each section completely using medium heat on full power.

DO NOTS

When you would like to perm or colour your hair, don’t do it yourself.

For re-colouring always seek professional advice.

Avoid the heat from flames and cookers as this can frizz real hair.

Avoid long exposure to chlorine and salt water. Chlorine and salt water can cause the hair to tangle and mat up.

TIPS, ADVICE, RECOMMENDATION

If you do notice excessive tangling/matting during first two weeks, it may be a sign of inversion; contact us immediately!
Tangling/matting that occurs after months of wear is due to improper care.

Be gentle with your extensions as pulling will cause serious breakage.

Using a water spray bottle to dampen the hair slightly before styling will soften and reactivate any styling products used before, avoiding combing stress on the hair and giving your hair a fresh look for the day.

Always brush longer hair from the ends first. Then, when smoothed out, take the brush fully through the hair.

Sleeping in your wig is possible but may reduce the longevity of your piece and can cause breakage and split ends.

HAND TIED WEFTS

When using hand tied wefts make sure the sharp objects are not used as the weft can become unravelled and the hair become loose. Before ordering a hand tied weft make sure you give us your measurements so the weft can be tailored to your needs.
